Tel Aviv police have arrested a 28-year-old make who stole a case containing over NIS 2 million in cash. The young man, employed to clean an office, made off with the case containing the money which he found while cleaning an office in a large real estate firm in northern Tel Aviv. The man in custody, Muhmad Kaqiya, is a PA (Palestinian Authority) resident inside Israel illegally. The bag contained a number of currencies including shekels, dollars and euros.
Police believe that he stole and hid the bag over a year ago, adding last week he allegedly bought three homes in PA areas using the money, depositing NIS 500,000 in his account.
The real estate company first tried locating the bag on its own and only filed a police complaint when they were unsuccessful. During the remand hearing in the Tel Aviv Magistrate Court on Sunday, 10 Teves, the suspect admitted to some of the charges against him.
Police report he is seen on security video carrying the case. Defense attorney Dan Bauman insists police are not correct when reporting he deposited NIS 500,000 in the bank or that he purchased homes in Jerusalem. The court however decided to extend his remand for three days as the investigation continues.

One wonders why this real estate company was so cavaliar about leaving that much currency unattended overnight in nothing more secure than a case/bag.
Which fool employes an Arab, let alone the one in the country illegally, when so much easy cash is laying around?
Some wonder why anyone whose cash has been stolen doesn’t go immediately to the legal authorities police to recover the cash, but instead tries to find it without contacting the legal authorities. But not me. Let me emphasize that I know nothing about the theft victim, other than what is reported in this story, and my skepticism is not based on information about the victim.
