Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin on Thursday stated we cannot speak of “peace” if such a peace involves the division of Yerushalayim.

Responding to remarks made earlier in the day by US Vice President Joe Biden in a Tel Aviv University Address, the speaker stated that while Mr. Biden is a friend and supporter of Israel, his position is unacceptable and Israel cannot adopt a policy calling for the division of the Jewish capital.

Mr. Rivlin expressed his concern over the fact that Biden’s audience applauded his announced opposition to the Jerusalem construction, warning Israeli society continues to cross red lines, losing sight and perspective of our strategic needs and interests.

He stated the two nations have a history of disagreement and Israel must remain firm, clinging to Jerusalem and telling others at the onset that the division of the capital is a non-starter.
