Over 1,000 children who were r”l orphaned over the past few years, received a multi-blast of happiness from Misaskim and their trove of dedicated volunteers within the past two weeks.
Without any let-up in their well-known services of dispatching first-response teams when tragedy strikes, as well as for providing shiva materials for current aveilim, these young yesomim and yesomos were treated by Misaskim to Chanukah gelt in the form of $50-$75 VISA gift cards, as well as several plastic-encased dollars and coins with messages of encouragement and beracha from leading Admorim and Rabbanim.
And, without any advance fanfare or publicity, many of them were treated to private gala Chanukah parties, and entertained by leading Jewish celebrities, including Avraham Fried and the Yedidim choir.
This writer questioned the expense and effort put into these events until he saw the looks on the faces of these children as they sang, danced, ate Chanukah treats to their heart’s content, all-the-while winning game show prizes and having loads of fun, something that was sorely missing for these families over the past many months.
In fact, the surviving parents of these orphans may have been the most important recipient of all as they watched their children laugh, sing, dance…and escape their dismal predicament for a few hours.
In the words of one of the single parents: “This is what it takes to restore a yasom, after experiencing an entire year of aveilos, not sharing in any type of simcha, or even just listening to music. Misaskim, you made them feel like they were the most important individuals in the world, and it lifted their spirits in a huge way”.
May HaShem erase the need for Misaskim, forever.
