MK Ben-Ari: Oust MK Tibi as Speaker

MK (Ichud HaLeumi) Dr. Michael Ben-Ari sent an urgent letter to the chair of the Knesset House Committee, MK (Likud) Yair Levine, requesting that he use his authority to remove MK (Ta’al-Ra’am) Dr. Ahmed Tibi from the list of deputy Knesset speakers.

The incident stems from Tibi’s shouts of “terrorists” in relation to the Olei HaGardom, the thirteen pre-state fighters who were hanged at the gallows by the British. Tibi expressed his feelings during the special Knesset session honoring the pre-state freedom fighters.

Adding to the severity of his remarks was the fact the Arab MK opted to interrupt Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s address, questioning why “terrorists are being honored”. Knesset Speaker Rivlin had Tibi expelled from the session.

Interestingly, when speaking with Galei Tzahal (Army Radio) host Razi Barkai, expressing his disgust with the fact that “terrorists are honored as heroes”, Tibi avoiding the question, asked about a planned Ramallah ceremony this week to name a city square after a master terrorist who murdered 37 innocent people. His response to Barkai was rhetorical, “Am I here to discuss the PA (Palestinian Authority)”.
