Visiting US Vice President Joe Biden was a guest at the official President’s Residence for breakfast on Tuesday morning. The two discussed a number of key issues, including the Iranian threat and the diplomatic process between Israel and the PA (Palestinian Authority).
Mr. Biden stated the Iranian regime is isolated economically at present, showing again just how misguided the US administration is regarding the growing Iranian threat.
Israel continues to urge immediate crippling economic sanctions against Iran, hoping to avoid a military assault to stop Tehran’s nuclear program, and while the clock runs down, America does not appear to understand the urgency of the situation.
IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-General Gabi Ashkenazi is scheduled to meet in Washington with Admiral Mike Mullen, the chief of the US’ armed forces, once again to discuss the Iranian threat.
In an appearance before the Knesset Foreign Affairs & Defense Committee on Monday, Defense Minister Ehud Barak emphasized that Iran at present does not pose an existential threat to Israel but this will not be the case if Iran builds a nuclear bomb. His words were echoed by Minister of Strategic Affairs Moshe Ya’alon.
A senior military intelligence official was less optimistic, explaining even the so-called crippling economic sanctions will not succeed in halting Iran’s nuclear program.
In their Tuesday morning breakfast meeting, Mr. Peres emphasized the need to impose crippling sanctions against Iran, emphasizing that this however is not sufficient, questioning how Iran is permitted full membership in the United Nations considering Tehran’s continued defiance of the international community.
