After his eldest son Ariel served in the Golani Brigade, Yehuda Meshi-Zahav proudly announces another son is entering the IDF, to become a paratrooper in the new chareidi company in the paratroop brigade.
Meshi-Zahav, who used to be the operations officer for the Eida Chareidis and lead Shabbos protests on Bar Ilan has done a turn-around and has become an accepted figure in Israel; heading ZAKA and often interviewed on radio and television, as well as lighting an Independence Day torch in an official state ceremony.
He told the media “I am very proud that he is going to serve am yisrael by becoming a combat soldier in the IDF”.

And the son gave up the beard and pe’os for the privilege of being in the IDF. This seems to back up the Eidis hareidis position that a hareidi soldier in the Israeli army is an oxymoron.

YWN is implying that being the operations officer for the Eida HaChareidis (a large and tremendously well respected organisation) isn’t accepted in Israel, and welcomes his ‘turn-around’.
Once again showing YWN’s pathetic greater love for Medinas Israel than for Yiddishkeit.
I have many neighbords who have gone into the army with beards and payos and came out with them. If someone is from a chassidish family, fills out the paperwork and has a letter from his rav, nobody bothers the soldier. The system bends over backwards for chareidi chayalim – paying for the highest standards of kashrus, setting up gender segmented areas and more.

Number 2 — “fake news.” You dont need to shave your beard or remove peyos in the army. Now what is your objection? I think those that dont go into the army — should at very least say “Thank you.” It is not 1950 anymore. The country is much more religious. The army is replete with religious officers and commanders. As the charedi population grows — who is going to be in the army? If you have a “neturei karta/Satmar” philosophy — fine — but the rest of you?
