US Vice President Biden Arrives in Israel

4:25PM IL: US Vice President Joe Biden and his wife arrived in Eretz Yisrael a short time ago. Mr. Biden disembarked from his official Boeing 757, greeted by senior US Embassy officials and Vice Premier Moshe Ya’alon.

There was no ceremony at the airport other than the modest official greeting.

The vice president’s convoy of some 25 vehicles is heading from Tel Aviv’s Ben-Gurion International Airport to Jerusalem on Highway 1, the Jerusalem – Tel Aviv Highway, which is closed from the airport to the capital, resulting in serious delays in that direction.

Jerusalemites will be dealing with many delays as a result of Mr. Biden’s three-day state visit, which includes dinner with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Monday night and breakfast with President Shimon Peres.

Most believe that during his visit, the vice president will announce the renewal of a diplomatic process between Israel and the PA (Palestinian Authority), indirect talks that are expected to last a maximum of four months, as per a PA-imposed deadline.

  1. “Highway 1, the Jerusalem – Tel Aviv Highway, …is closed from the airport to the capital” (i.e. the main west-to-east cross-country highway is closed.)
Is this what Obama does for Netanyahu when he comes to Washington?!?

  2. Uchh – I’m supposed to head into Yerushalayim on Wednesday for a lunch meeting. I hope this doesn’t mess up my plans. Maybe if we’re lucky he’ll leave a day early.

Obama is the President of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, JOE BIDEN IS VICE PRESIDENT.
    Who is Netanyahu?
PM of Israel. Not exactly the leader of the free world and greatest world power. Don’t be ridiculous.

  4. #3 – You are guilty of “v’hayeenu k’chagavim b’aynayNU” – the chait of the m’raglim.
When “Obama…the President of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,(&) JOE BIDEN… VICE PRESIDENT” are long forgotten and are just a footnote in a dusty history book, the nation of Israel will be the “greatest world power”.
    “Don’t be ridiculous.”

  5. “Who is Netanyahu?”
I wish Israelis would have asked that question before the second time they voted for him.

  6. #4 WHY MUST YOU SPEAK OF SUCH NON SENSE? AS WE ALL KNOW SHTEEKAH KE HODAH PLEASE DO NOT INVOLVE YOURSELF IN SUCH RIDICULOUS COMMENTS.IF OBAMA WOULD JUMP OFF A BRIDGE WOULD KLAL YISROEL FOLLOW?

  7. Wow, such am haratzus. Listen, we need to respect Obama as the world leader and some shitos hold you have to make a bracha in shul for him (without shem umalchus) because he is like a melech. Today Israel is nothing in the worlds eyes. When Moshiach comes things will be vastly different and I’m sure we won’t be closing roads for Obama but then again, guys like Netanyahu Barak and Peres will not be our govt. Our leaders will be tzaddikim of the highest caliber not frei chazir fressers. So yes, todays Israeli leaders are gornisht mit nisht and every country must respect the leaders of the United States. That’s just the way the world works. It makes no sense to suggest that special attention be given to Netanyahu he is no better than the pm of other countries and I believe he is treated with proper respect when he visits the US.

  8. Would I be too radical if I opined that perhaps no human being’s time is worth more than that of the collective inhabitants of not one but two major Jewish communities? Would it be off base to suggest that Israelis’ long-term and immediate interests are in no way served by extending this sort of wild deference to an opponent who looked into the camera in Florida and lied “you have my word as a Biden” that he and Obama would not be the adversaries of Israeli survival that they have so far proven to be?
