Activists working for the release of IDF soldier Gilad Shalit are less than pleased with the IDF’s statistics. Military officials, who are seeking to allay the fears of the international community, released humanitarian aid statistics to prove assistance continues to flow into Hamas-controlled Gaza despite the embargo. Shalit activists are calling for a tighter embargo, one that will bring Hamas to its knees as a result of an outcry from the population.
IDF officials report that in the past week, 533 trucks carrying basic supplies crossed into Gaza, bringing a total of over 13 tons of goods. This is in addition to 832 tons of cooking gas and 1.3 million liters of diesel fuel.
