Paterson May Face Criminal Charges

Prosecutors plan to question David Johnson, a top aide for Governor Paterson, within the next few days. Sources said the Paterson and state police officials could face criminal charges including tampering with a witness.

Sherr-una Booker accused Johnson of assault, and she told court officials that in the days after the altercation, “the state troopers kept calling and harassing me to drop the charges.”

The governor was also being investigated for allegedly lying about how he obtained World Series tickets.

Some Paterson supporters, including New York City Councilman Charles Barron were are upset that Attorney General Andrew Cuomo was leading the investigation and were demanding he remove himself from it.

In a statement, Councilman said “Since Cuomo is likely to run for governor, he should do the right thing and immediately remove himself from the investigation of Governor Paterson.”

“He may very well be the next governor of the state of New York and to have him laying out the terms for discussions with Paterson’s lawyer is a little tawdry, even for Albany,” said attorner Ron Kuby.

Kuby, who was not part of Paterson’s legal defense team, said Cuomo should hand the case over to the Albany District attorney or a special prosecutor.

  1. The rarest species is a politician who has no bagman. Watch any public official long enough and you will see the bagman making his delivery. There is no better reason to seek public office than having the opportunity to gather hundreds or many time millions in tax free cash. It would be accurate to imagine over a trillion dollars annually being transported by bagmen in the US alone. Very rarely is this method of corruption uncovered. The bagman just transports the cash and never has any knowledge of the deal.
