IDF Simulates War in the North

During the last week, IDF forces in the north exercised simulated war scenarios in the north, including a conflict with Syria.

The maneuvers were part of the regular annual division exercises, evaluating integration between ground, air and sea forces in a simulated battlefield scenario. The exercises took a number of attack scenarios into play, including Hizbullah rocket fire from S. Lebanon, joined by Syrian participation while Hamas rockets were fired into Israel from Gaza.

IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-General Gabi Ashkenazi stated that Israel is genuinely uninterested in escalating towards a military conflict in the region but the IDF will maintain its level of preparedness to address any eventuality.

  1. War in the region should be a last resort however we must be properly prepared and the soldiers should run these drills until they can do them in their sleep.
