The Vaad L’maan Shabbos continued protest actions this week against the convenience stores which remain open on shabbos, operating in gas stations and elsewhere in the capital.
The vaad met on motzei shabbos and the chairman, Rabbi Yosef Rosenfeld stated that the new PEKP supermarket in the center of the city, on Darom Street [near Hillel Street] is another sign of the unacceptable growing trend of ignoring the shabbos in the capital. It appears another boycott is looming on the agenda.
The vaad is looking into ways to halt the continued trend of more and more stores operating on shabbos.
As usual, the protests against the city’s operation of Karta parking lot took place during the afternoon hours.

What does קידוש ה and חילול ה really mean? If someone doesn’t carry on shabbos and people laugh at him is that a problem? What about someone who gets killed for not bowing down to an idol and people laugh at him, and think jews are backwards and foolish people was such a person מחלל שם שמים? Obviously he was not, so what then constitutes חילול ה and קידוש ה? The answer is that what honoring H name really means is that a person does H will. By doing so he SHOWS to what degree he is willing to serve H. H doesn’t get honor from our actions H is perfect and doesn’t need us. Honoring him means that WE show how much his will means to us. This is why one who gives up his life so as not to bow down to an idol is considered to have sanctified H name. The same is true the other way as well. If one does a sin he is considered to have disgraced H name. This is not because he actually cv did, its bec thats what his action shows. This is also the reason why if there are ten people present one must give up his life for any sin. This is bec since there are ten people present and the action will show in front of more people how one doesn’t do H will. This is the reason why these people in EY protest even when people make fun of them. The reason is that people laughing at them or thinking low of them isn’t in essence a חילול ה. Rather the fact that they are laughed at and beaten up etc is the biggest קידוש ה because they are showing that even through all this they are willing to do the will of H. Sanctifying the name of H doesn’t depend on what people think it is hinged upon what the action in itself shows.
