Being In The Right Place At The Right Time – In This Case A Shul

4MDA on-call EMT Schneur Chick, a member of the religious community, was in the right place at the right time, which in this case was a shul. Schneur heard a choking cough near him and say a dad holding and infant. He immediately realized what was taking place, took the child from the father and did what had to be done to clear the child’s airway.

The incident occurred on Sunday, 19 Cheshvan in a moshav in the Emek Lod area. “I was sitting in shul and suddenly I heard the cough, a strange sound and I immediately reacted, understanding the child may have been choking. I identified myself to the father and took the child into my arms, turning him over and did what I was trained to do. I noticed a piece of plastic in his throat, an 8-month-old. Apparently it was on a cookie that was given to him. Once removed the child began breathing regularly”.

The photo shows the plastic removed from the infant’s throat.
