November 20, 2016 marked the thirtieth anniversary of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat’s historic visit to Jerusalem.
39 years ago, Israel’s repeated calls for peace were finally answered: This weekend marks 39 years since the historic visit by then Egyptian President, Anwar Sadat, to Jerusalem on 20 November 1977. President Sadat responded to Prime Minister’s Menachem Begin invitation, because he understood that the key to peace is found in mutual recognition and direct dialogue with Israel. He came to speak to the Israeli people, and to negotiate with their leaders without preconditions. The result was an end to 30 years of wars, and the beginning of nearly 40 years of peace between Israel and Egypt ever since.
