Marking 26 Years Since The Assassination Of Rabbi Meir Kahane

2The 18th of Cheshvan, this coming Shabbos, will mark 26 years since Rabbi Meir Kahane HY”D, who was assassinated in NYC following a speaking engagement.

Kahane, who founded the JDL and the now-illegal Kach party in Israel, also served in Knesset and prior to that, championed the fight to free Soviet Jewry.

The main event will take place on Thursday, 16 Cheshvan in Heichal David Hall at 14 Ohaliav Street in Jerusalem. There will also be an aliyah to the kever in Har Menuchos before that.

  1. I remember his Levaya. It was at Young Israel of Ocean Parkway, next door to Mirrer Yeshiva. The Yeshiva was dismissed early for security reasons. My parents brought us back to attend the Levaya. I remember one Maspid saying A kohen and a Navi was killed (Zechariah Hanavi)

  2. RAbbi Meir Kahane was a visionary. The US government wanted to shut him up, and did not thoroughly investigate his murder. Had they done so, they could have prevented the first bombing of the World Trade Center.
He was a martyr for the Jewish people as were his son and daughter-in-law, who were also murdered.
