Veteran Likud MK Dr. Benny Begin is not a fan of the Regulation Bill that seeks to retroactively legalize Amona, telling the media he will vote against it in Knesset on Wednesday.
Speaking with Galei Tzahal (Army Radio) on Tuesday 14 Cheshvan, Begin explains “While I understand the plight of the Prime Minister, the solution proposed here is simply unacceptable”.
“We are all pressured and we all understand this but does that mean we need a bad solution? We are dealing with case law. You receive a ruling in your favor or oops, cancel it cancel it. This is most serious”.
On Monday evening the Obama administration spoke out against the bill, which was passed earlier this week by the Ministerial Law Committee. State Department spokesperson Elizabeth Trudeau said the US is aware additional steps are necessary before the bill becomes law and the administration hopes these steps are not taken.
She added passing it “would represent an unprecedented and troubling step that is inconsistent with prior Israeli legal opinion and breaks non-standing Israeli policy of not building on private Palestinian land.”
