Dubai investigators on Monday announced they are approaching Interpol, seeking international arrest warrants for 11 suspects believed part of the assassination team involved in the murder of Mahmoud a-Mabhouh in a luxury Dubai hotel.
According to reports in Israel and around the world, the warrants will be for Europeans suspected of involvement in the assassination of the senior Hamas leader. Israeli involvement is not being ruled out by Dubai investigators at this time.
Dubai officials commenting on the ongoing investigation report that Irish, British, German and French passports were used by members of the assassination team, who acted on impeccable intelligence information since some team members arrived in Dubai days ahead of the intended victim.
Dubai Police Chief Dahi Khalfan told reporters a number of details; that one of the suspects is a woman, that Mossad involvement has not been ruled out, and Mabhouh may have been electrocuted. The team members left drugs alongside the body to masque the assassination some reports state and other steps were also taken to give the appearance of a natural death. According to the police chief, a leading suspect, carrying a French passport, left Dubai and traveled to Kuwait.
According to an al-Arabia report, two Arabs suspected in providing assistance to the assassination team were turned over to Dubai investigators by Jordan.
What is also being reviewed is the fact that Minister of National Infrastructure Dr. Uzi Landau was in Dubai for an international conference a number of days earlier. According to some speculation, members of the assassination team entered Dubai under the guise of being assigned to the minister’s team. Since the assassination, Israel has not released any official statements but the Arab world is pointing a finger of blame at Meir Dagan and his Mossad Intelligence Agency.
Chief Khalfan told reporters that the Mossad carries out many assassinations in other countries, even allied countries.
