The publisher of The New York Times penned a letter to readers Friday promising that the paper would “reflect” on its coverage of this year’s election while rededicating itself to reporting on “America and the world” honestly.
Arthur O. Sulzberger Jr., the paper’s embattled publisher, appealed to Times readers for their continued support.
“Did Donald Trump’s sheer unconventionality lead us and other news outlets to underestimate his support among American voters?” they asked. Some subscribers may read that as just more excuse-making and not the plea for forgivenness they might have expected. But the letter also reflected the Times’ fear of losing all-important subscribers to its print and digital editions at a time of plummeting advertising revenue and challenges from online news venues.
“We cannot deliver the independent, original journalism for which we are known without the loyalty of our subscribers,” the letter states.

Except when it comes to Israel and other Jewish affairs. Load of garbage
do they really believe that they “reported on both candidates fairly during the presidential campaign”? that is so not true and they know it! they are not going to convince me otherwise nor will CNN (clinton news network) nor will the rest of the media (except perhaps FOX). they are all a bunch of liars and they are only concerned over the bottom line $, not the truth!
When I reached the part where they claim that they covered the campaign honestly I was shocked. But then when they wrote that they “will hold power to account” as if they have been doing so for the past eight years I cringed. What this means is simply, that regardless of their known BIAS AGAINST PRESIDENT ELECT DONALD J TRUMP, they will nevertheless shamelessly continue to “cover him impartially” under the guise of fair journalism. The good news is that obviously people have finally seen through them. Mamesh Chazir Feesen
Chaiml; I disagree, they are more concerned with their political agenda than with the bottom line. If they presented a balanced viewpoint in their news reporting they would in all likelihood sell quite a bit more papers regardless of their editorial views.
When pigs fly…
Even when trying to apologize, they blamed Trump’s “unconventionality” for bringing them to bias!
Using the NYT for fishwrap is an insult to the fish!
is this article part of the sleezy lying corrupt new York times or the new and improved?
given the obvious chazaka, we’d have to say the former… and therefore are deceptive and lying about ever being the other.
drain the swamp!!!!!
A huge portion of the mainstream media was completely biased, and reported things with such a slant it was nauseating. NYT is one of the models of this. NYT has a very long history of using its “power” to manipulate the world. Is anyone aware of the false reporting during WWII? It did not carry a single story about the holocaust and the extermination of Jews until somewhere into 1945. It was under pressure to do so. It carried a story several pages into the paper, where it would hardly be noticed. I, for one, have staunchly refused to every buy the paper or even open its website. For several years, i was plagued with phone solicitations to subscribe to daily delivery, and I always told them that until I see a change in the editorial stance of this rag, I would not use it for more than training a dog.
The fact that the publisher of NYT needed to write such a letter is an admission of guilt, much as the fools who pleaded the fifth to Congress several months ago.
The track record of anti-Jewish sentiment dominating the NYT is legendary. Periodically they would publish a favorable article to deflect the accusations. But they know well how guilty they are. I wish them bankruptcy, and hope they get replaced by another publication with morals that are not embarrassing.
We all know it as the radio commentators call it ” THE NEW YORK SLIMES “.
Such a bias paper
IT WILL BE THE FIRST TIME IN IT’S HISTORY
The NY Times is a great newspaper, but sometimes it does get one sided in reporting the news.
Accepting the PA claim that Israel has ‘settled’ on their land should be investigated, since the land the Palestinians claim was taken from Jordan, not from Palestinians.
It never was their land. Before the Jordanian rulers, there was the Ottoman Turks who ruled for centuries. The Palestinians never ruled nor owned all the land.
That line about “creativity” is surprising.
Since when is a newspaper supposed to be “creative”? It’s supposed to report the facts.
Seems like some truth slipped out.
After deceiving the people and seeing their revenue dropping to 19% they’re vowing to “report honestly”. Huh? Who’d believe them after all the cover-ups and lies they made you believe?
#13 Thank you President-Elect Donald Trump. Hope other mainstream media propaganda liars will lose financially too.
#6 Insulting? Don’t try. Fish get contaminated with such rogue trash.
FAIRLY! SERIOUSLY
the good thing about this election result is that trump will make all these media outlets that he deemed unfair (maybe all of them) eat it now that hes president. he already started that by not inviting them on the trip to washington the other day. maybe just maybe thatll teach them a lesson once and for all. the high and mighty media met their match in president donald j trump!!
and now i read that the majority owner of the ny times pledged to hillary over $100m that can explain some of this

I banned the NYT from my home 15 years ago – my husband used to buy it every day. Yellow journalism.
