Rav Batzri Abandons Fourth Attempt to Remove Dibuk

Rav Yitzchak Batzri did not make a fourth attempt to remove the dibuk from the young Brazilian avreich as was expected on Sunday. According to the reports received on Sunday, the noted Mekubal was going to make another attempt, as was reported by YWN-Israel. As the story ends, the gathering in the Rav’s shul, Yeshivat Shalom in Jerusalem’s Makor Baruch neighborhood, they took part in Rosh Chodesh tefillos and may were undoubtedly disappointed to learn there would not be another dibuk ceremony.

It appears the Rav is concerned that additional attempts may result in harm to the young man. The Rav is also quoted as discounting statements that the avreich may be mentally ill, insisting many have interviewed and checked the young man and this was determined to not be the case.

  1. It’s unfortunate that people need these types of stories to prop up their emunah. It’s a sad commentary on the state of Judaism today.

Who are these “many” that have interviewed and checked him? I would love to hear one doctor’s name. The guy hears voices – he’s either a faker or mentally ill. This was amusing at first, and now it’s just criminal. Stop the charade and get the guy some real help.

  3. Blue Pinky – Are you insinuating that people base their Emunat Hashem purely on esoteric matters? I beg to differ.

justajew – wouldn’t it be better to just say what you really mean? Just say, “Heh Guys! I don’t believe in Dibuks!” In response to your real statement, there are people that don’t believe in a Creator. That doesn’t stop Hashem from existing.

There’s a nig difference between not believing in something and saying that something is what it appears and not a more rare and highly unlikely occurence. The last time Rav Batzri was involved with a dybbuk he was made a fool of. I’m not sure if he thinks there are a lot of dybbukim today or what but obviously he was fooled once and he can be fooled again. The man needs a Dr. not a Shofar!

  5. WellInformedYid – I hear your point of view. However, let’s be honest. Neither of us have meet up with this unfortunate man. Thus, how in the world can we decide what is or isn’t? I think we are better off sitting on the sidelines and wait to see how this plays out.

Yosef Greenberg – I don’t know who Washington would go to, but I’d most certainly go to Douglas Adams! LOL

  6. Obviously he won’t cease trying to get rid of the dybuk, he’s the one who vouches for its existence. He loses all credibility as a mystical miracle maker if he can’t get rid of his dreamed up dybuk. The poor avreich is mentally deranged and badly needs proper medical treatment. This mystic is making a chilul Hashem and is causing yidden to question emunah. Going for psychological treatment is not a lack of emunah. Going to an obvious quack is.

  7. theprof1 – It amazes me the haughtiness of Am HaAratzim! Most of the Gedolim approached on this feel that he is possessed and you who know nothing about Dybukim come along and claim YOU”RE the expert. Furthermore, in your guile you’ve decided what peoples intentions are. Next you’ll have us believe that you have Navuah as well!

Purim is coming soon. Perhaps this years you should study the Megillah and learn from it. (Of course, I’m assuming that the professor knows Hebrew fluently.)

Something tells me that you’d have been making jest of Mordechai as well if you lived then. Kinda says something about you. 🙁
