Members of the left-wing community arrested in protests against the presence of Jews in Jerusalem’s Shimon HaTzaddik neighborhood are petitioning the nation’s High Court of Justice.
In the petition, they are calling to freeze the process of cleansing the criminal records of hundreds of disengagement detainees, persons arrested in their opposition to the 2005 Disengagement Law until their challenge can be heard.
The petitioners explain that the law only addresses persons arrested protesting the disengagement, and therefore, the law passed in Knesset is discriminatory since their arrests protesting the Jewish presence in the Shimon HaTzaddik area of the capital were similar, yet not addressed by the law.
