High Court Cutting Ties With Justice Minister Shaked

1High Court Chief Justice Miriam Naor has sent a letter to Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked in which she accuses the senior minister of “placing a gun at the table”.

The latest row surrounds a proposed law that would eliminate the need of a 7 of 9 majority among committee members selecting new justices.

Naor warns the initiative is tantamount to placing a gun at the table and by eliminating the necessary majority, a justice will be able to get elected with a simple majority. As a result, members of the High Court who serve on the selection committee will cease cooperating with Shaked and the Justice Ministry.

Justice Naor added that despite her disapproval of the process, the court will not intervene in Knesset legislative process.

  1. Julian Assange, where are you? The Israelis are desperate to be as lucky as the U.S. and get some good WikiLeaks revealed on the corrupt government and judiciary.

  2. The only noteworthy point in this article is the declaration that the court won’t intervene in the legislative process. That is quite shocking since they do that routinely.
