Residents of the Pisgat Ze’ev neighborhood of northern Jerusalem protested outside the home of Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat in the Beit HaKerem area, sending him a clear message regarding the unacceptably loud muezzin heard by them from the neighboring mosque daily.
In fact, the perturbed residents explained they are subject to the harassment of the muezzin numerous times throughout the day, calling on the city to take action to place restrictions on the volume of the mosque loudspeakers. They angrily announced during the protest that the muezzin begins broadcasting as early as 6:00AM.
The protesters were equipped with loudspeakers, using them to give the mayor a taste of what they endure daily. Police arrived in a timely fashion, shutting down the loudspeakers.
It is reported the mayor is working with Jerusalem police towards developing a plan to enforce noise pollution laws, which to date are permitted to broadcast as they wish at all hours of the day or night.

What a shanda!! How dare these Muslim Muezzin disturb the quiet and shalom bayis of these ehrliche yidden with their loud call to davening several times a day. Have these yidden considered relocating to the peace and quiet of Spencer Street in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn?? I’m told there is a lovely Satmar shul nearby with a quaint air-raid siren on the roof.
