An Israel Prison Authority parole board is going to convene in December to once again discuss the possibility of early parole for former President Moshe Katsav. In August 2016, the former president’s second early release request was denied.
The parole board is expected to convene in the beginning of the month to discuss the former president’s case for a third time. Opponents cite a number of reasons for objecting to his release, including the fact that to date, Mr. Katsav has been unwilling to admit to the crimes he was convicted of and therefore, he will not express remorse.
Many, including women’s rights activists, feel there should be no option of early release for Katsav as a former president must be held to a higher standard and one convicted on such heinous assaults against women should be entitled to any measure of mercy.
