As millions of people along the East Coast hole up in their snowbound homes, the two sides in the climate-change debate are seizing on the mounting drifts to bolster their arguments.
Skeptics of global warming are using the record-setting snows to mock those who warn of dangerous human-driven climate change — this looks more like global cooling, they taunt.
Most climate scientists respond that the ferocious storms are consistent with forecasts that a heating planet will produce more frequent and more intense weather events.
But some independent climate experts say the blizzards in the Northeast no more prove that the planet is cooling than the lack of snow in Vancouver or the downpours in Southern California prove that it is warming.
(CLICK ON IMAGE TO ENLARGE) As an illustration of their point of view, the family of Senator James M. Inhofe, Republican of Oklahoma, a leading climate skeptic in Congress, built a six-foot-tall igloo on Capitol Hill and put a cardboard sign on top that read “Al Gore’s New Home.”
The extreme weather, Mr. Inhofe said by e-mail, reinforced doubts about scientists’ conclusion that global warming was “unequivocal” and most likely caused by human activity.
Nonsense, responded Joseph Romm, a climate-change expert and former Energy Department official who writes about climate issues at the liberal Center for American Progress.
“Ideologues in the Senate keep pushing the anti-scientific disinformation that big snowstorms are evidence against human-caused global warming,” Mr. Romm wrote on Wednesday.
It is perhaps not coincidental that the snowstorm scuffle is playing out against a background of recent climate controversies: In recent months, global-warming critics have assailed a 2007 report by the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and have claimed that e-mail messages and documents plucked from a server at a climate research center in Britain raise doubts about the academic integrity of some climate scientists. Earlier this week, Rush Limbaugh and other conservative commentators made light of the fact that the announcement of the creation of a new federal climate service on Monday had to be conducted by conference call, rather than news conference, because the federal government was shuttered by the storm.
Matt Drudge, who delights in tweaking climate-change enthusiasts, noted on his Web sitethat a Senate hearing on global warming this week was canceled because of the weather.

The point of view that because we have more snow global warming is debunked is as pathetic as those who put forth global warming for every problem that we face environmentally,
The fact is the Global Warming theory, from back in the 80’s, stated that climate changes would NOT UNIVERSALLY BECOME HOTTER. The climate changes would cause usually warmer areas to become colder; much colder in some areas, and warmer in areas that NEEDED to be colder to keep the ecosystems in balance.
Before choosing sides based on news reports or looking outside your windows, research global warming and it’s origins. Yes, there are tons of things to research and all contradictory.
Science is always correcting itself anyway.

that says so. I am interested.
While we know that man-made pollution has an effect over large cities with acid rain and other contaminants affecting the air and water, and wildlife, it is certainly feasible that on a global level, effects to the environment can develop from man-made pollution as well.
It’s just that big business has a stake in the results. And big business usually funds such scientific research.
#6, I don’t know where you have been but there has been a big news story over the past six weeks or so about the East Anglia University having their e-mails hacked into and revealing that the scientists were conspiring to skew the data to prove global warming. It was the lead story for a couple of weeks in the Wall Street Journal. Don’t you read anything else but the sports pages of your newspaper?

I don’t get too concerned when I hear about global warming or cooling or any other dire predictions about the state of the world and nature. Hashem is the one in charge here. And we all know that before Moshiach comes the weather will be very unusual. So whenever we have strange weather just know that Moshiach is almost here!

Specifically because there is a severe anti business agenda by the vast majority of the “academic elite” and those they have spent years lecturing to, they have come up with one attack after another on business and corporations and against the very idea of anyone being allowed to earn a profit (except for liberals such as lawyers who love to sue people out of business like for claim of “asbestos abuse” to wrokers who wroked during a time when the effects were not known but the comopany must “pay” anyway.
And Senatiors and other libs like actors who get more for one movie then many of the CEO’s they hate get in a year).
And this global warming scan is just another of many attacks on business.
I guess Hashem is trying to show them that He’s the one in charge of the weather. Maybe the world will open it’s eyes to the fact that there is a creator who’s around and running the show.
