Jerusalem Councilman R’ Yitzchak Pindrus is trying to make headway to simplify the process of registering one’s child to a gan (kindergarten – daycare) in the city’s chareidi education system. To date, parents toil to get their child into the gan of choice, and usually, a measure of political clout is required to accomplish this, but when the registration period elapses, some of the facilities are over registered while others have empty slots.
Parents know that for certain facilities, the must begin seeking political favors and using whatever ‘protecktzia’ (political connections) they may have. Pindrus however reports that a computer system has been mapped to permit assigning children to the most appropriate gan. He hopes the new system will eliminate the worries and assign children to the most suitable gan and thereby, prevent the anguish and concern for parents while filling the city’s facilities equally.
A second registration facility has been set up in Beis Malka for the coming year to permit parents to register in a more convenient location other than City Hall. The new facility will also offer evening hours, once again seeking to accommodate parents.
