Two Hamas terrorists were apprehended by authorities along the Gaza border in December 2009. Salmon Abu Atik, 43, was taken into custody on December 12, 2009. He was carrying $15,000 in counterfeit currency. Short after his arrest, a day or so later, they also found a gun and a silencer he planned to use.
The terrorist were carrying weapons and explosives as well as counterfeit currency. During interrogation, the suspects admitted that planned to perpetrate terror attacks in Israel.
The censor today, Thursday, cleared the case for publication, that IDF forces working in concert with the Shin Bet made the arrest last year. According to the report, they planned to abduct an IDF soldier and place the explosives they were carrying in a busy public place in the hope of perpetrating a major terror attack.
Under interrogation, Atik admitted he planned to abduct and murder a soldier, working with an accomplice, Ibrahim Zuara, who was taken into custody on December 31, 2009, found to be carrying explosives. His mission was to place the bombs in a crowded area in Israel within ten days of crossing the border.
