Major Cities To Break Seasonal Snow Records

AccuWeather.com is now projecting that Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Wilmington (DE), Baltimore, Atlantic City and others will break their records for snowiest season in recorded history, after tomorrow’s storm. Here are the stats (in inches, current/record/expected after tomorrow):

Philly: 56.4 / 65.5 / 71.0
Atlantic City: 42.8 / 46.9 / 53.7
Wilmington: 53.9 / 55.9 / 67.3
Washington D.C.: 63.1 / 61.9 / 72.3
Baltimore: 60.4 / 62.5 / 74.6

Other tidbits: Only one other season has provided two storms with more than a foot of snow for Philly (and only 7 storms total!) and those were barely over a foot (2009-2010 has provided 22.5 + 28.5). There have never been three double-digit snowstorms in a season (another record which should be broken tomorrow). Also interesting as blog reader Steve pointed out yesterday that Baltimore is currently within an inch and a half of Erie & Buffalo’s seasonal totals (62.0 & 61.2).

Tomorrow’s projected blizzard for New York City area has already dropped impressive amounts in the Plains, Midwest and Southeast:

Clarion, IA: 12.0″
Finland, MN: 12.0″
Madison & Kingston, AR: 10.0″
Atoka, TN: 8.0″
Olive Branch, MS: 8.0″
Goddard, KS: 7.5″
Sioux Falls, SD: 7.2″
Rockport, IN: 7.0″
McDonough, IL: 7.0″
Downing, MO: 6.5″
Owensboro, KY: 6.0″
Anderson, AL: 6.0″
Beaver, OK: 4.0″
Perryton, TX: 4.0″
Grand Forks, ND: 3.6″
Hastings, MI: 3.0″
Napoleon & Williams, OH: 3.0″

  1. Obama made a speech on the importance of fighting global warming in Copenhagen in December, and we got a major snow storm. He emphasized the importance of government action to prevent global warming in his State of the Union, and we got another major snowstorm. He’s just announced a new federal agency to fight global warming, and here we go again.

Either that guy got a lot of clout with Whomever is in charge of the weather, or Someone has a sense of humor.
