Attorney General Andrew Cuomo leads Governor David Paterson among Democrats in the race for governor, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll released today.
The poll finds Cuomo leads Paterson 55 – 23 percent among Democrats, compared to 60 – 23 percent in a December 15 survey.
Moreover, Cuomo leads Paterson 66 – 15 percent among white Democrats, while Paterson leads 42 – 34 percent among black Democrats. All blacks polled give Cuomo better scores on approval and favorability.
Cuomo has not declared his candidacy for governor.
Meanwhile, in the possible Democratic primary matchup for New York’s Senate seat between Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and former Tennessee Congressman Harold Ford Jr, Gillibrand leads 36 – 18 percent, with 40 percent undecided.
The same poll found New York State voters approve 57 – 38 percent of the job President Barack Obama, down from 59 percent December 15.
