Uman Municipality Names A Street After Rav Nachman

1Members of the Uman City Council voted unanimously to change the name of Balinsky Street, located near the tziyun of Rav Nachman ZT”L, to Rebi Nachman of Breslov Street.

A new law was legislated in the Ukraine a number of months ago compelling changing the names of streets which are named after authors and communist supporters. The same law forbids the display of communist symbols in the street, alleys and squares as well as in parks and other areas of Ukraine. In fact, the law was voted in for a six-month period back in May 2015 calling for the removal of all communist monuments and this was followed in May 2016 with the law compelling a change of street names.

The mayor uploaded information regarding the new law on a website and polled residents for new street names. The name change to Rav Nachman Street near the tziyun was approved.

Needless to say the move is welcomed by Breslov Chassidim and others who visit the tziyun.
