The driver of the minivan in the accident that occurred in 2010, leading to the death of seven people R”L, was sentenced to 21 months imprisonment. The sentencing hearing was held on Thursday 12 Elul, and the light sentence has left many shocked following the magnitude of the loss of life.
The accident occurred on Route 353 near Kibbutz Gat when a train smashed into the minivan carrying the family.
Defense attorney Yigal Tamir did an eloquent job placing the blame for the fatal accident in a number of directions other than his client, who was facing 21 years in prison for his negligence that led to the loss of so many lives.

One wonders what the sentence would have been if those killed had been yuppies from North Tel Aviv not a family of haredim.
To the observer — this was a horrible accident, apparently caused by this person’s negligence. Are you hoping that he goes to an ir miklat for the rest of his life? He got 21 months. Not enough. If he got 5 years? 10 years? Would even 21 years be “enough”? For how many years would you feel that he did “enough” time?
