Despite a police request to extend his remand, the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday ordered the release of Rabbi Yitzchak Shapira, the rosh yeshiva of Ohd Yosef Chai Yeshiva, who police suspect had prior knowledge of the December 2009 arson attack against a Yusuf mosque, yet remained silent and continues to remain silent today, protecting those responsible.
The court criticized police, stating there is not a shred of evidence to support the claim that the rabbi is involved, ordering his release. The court did comply with a request to delay the rabbi’s release until 10:30pm to permit police time to consider appealing the decision.
Rabbi Shapira told the media on Tuesday that the allegations against him are simply baseless and he had no prior knowledge or connection to the arson attack.

The writer’s words “remained silent and continues to remain silent today, protecting those responsible” implies that the Rav DID have some connection to the perpetrators.
The writer MUST be more careful how he phrases things, since the Rav maintains “the allegations against him are simply baseless and he had no prior knowledge or connection to the arson attack.”
The writer was clear- the POLICE SUSPECT that his silence is to protect etc.
As said meny times before- in Israel you are guilty until proven innocent.
