When the Jewish driver, a known egg merchant, arrived at the a-Zayim Checkpoint in the northern capital on Tuesday, border police prepared for a routine inspection. A border policeman entered the van to inspect its cargo, and suddenly, the driver sped off, traveling hundreds of meters (yards) until the policeman jumped out.

The driver continued, eventually abandoning his van in Jerusalem’s French Hill neighborhood. Police seem to believe the incident was not an attempted kidnapping, but more likely an attempt to smuggle illegal eggs into Green Line Israel from a PA autonomous area.

The soldier sustained light injuries.
