Attorney General Menachem Mazuz on Monday presented Minister of Religious Services Yaakov Margi with new regulations setting policy regarding travel abroad by Israel’s chief rabbis. The regulations address trips funded by non-government organizations (NGOs), prompted by recent controversy surrounding funding for a trip abroad by Chief Rabbi Yonah Metzger Shlita.
The directive states that funding from a NGO may only come from a non-profit organization, an organization that is apolitical and not “controversial”, and have no connection to the chief rabbis or their families.
