The IDF has announced the establishment of a field security unit, a unit that will focus heavily on the internet, including forums such as Facebook and Twitter, realizing in many cases, soldiers and officers innocently post information and photos, representing a serious breach of field security.

YWN-Israel has filed numerous reporting citing intelligence community concerns as Hizbullah continues combing Facebook in search of information, amassing innocent bites of information from pages of soldiers, learning the ins and outs of the IDF and at times, actually finding photos of classified bases and other military installations.

Following the report of the Winograd Commission on the Second Lebanon War, the matter of field security has become a growing priority. The new unit will also be empowered to order a polygraph exam on officers of the rank of lt.-colonel and higher in an effort to learn if any unauthorized statements were made by an officer to the media.
