Israeli Taxi Driver Refused To Take Guide Dog Pays Dearly

1The Jerusalem Magistrate Court last week came down hard on a taxi driver who refused to take a fare because of his guide dog. The woman was unable to enter the taxi on the rainy day because the driver was insistent, not permitting her to bring her guide dog along.

The driver explained he feared the dog would damage his vehicle but the court explained he is compelled to permit a blind person and a guide dog to board his vehicle by law. The court ruled the actions of the driver violated the nation’s Equality Law, fining him NIS 10,000.

The suit was filed by the Commission for Equal Rights for Persons with Disabilities on behalf of the blind woman. Commissioner of Equal Rights for the Disabled Avrami Torm praised the ruling, calling it a “milestone in the ongoing struggle for equal rights for disabled persons”.

  1. If thats a picture of the driver and his stand, OK. We can know who to boycott when we are in Yerushalayim. If it is just any taxi though you should blur the number and the name of the taxi stand.
