Fire destroyed a home in Midwood Thursday evening.
The flames broke out around 6 p.m. in a three-story private dwelling at 1435 E. 18th St.
Officials say the building’s occupants escaped safely, but five firefighters sustained minor injuries battling the flames. One had heat exhaustion, another felt chest pains, and three had minor strains, according to authorities.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, but witnesses say they heard a strange noise coming from the air conditioner before the blaze began.
