Muslim Flight Attendant Sues ExpressJet Over Suspension

ejA Muslim flight attendant has sued ExpressJet, accusing the airline of wrongly suspending her because she refused to serve alcohol to passengers.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations’ Michigan chapter announced Tuesday it filed the lawsuit last week on behalf of Charee Stanley, a Detroit-based flight attendant for the airline headquartered in Atlanta.

The federal court case follows a discrimination complaint filed last year with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which dismissed it without determining whether the airline violated the law.

Stanley alleges ExpressJet didn’t provide a reasonable religious accommodation and seeks back pay and other damages. She was placed on unpaid leave last summer.

ExpressJet said in a statement that it values diversity but cannot comment on specific personnel matters or ongoing litigation.

  1. let me get this right: she was suspended from her job for not DOING her job?
and now she’s sueing for that? I dont understand.
What if it was my religion to smack people across the face-should I get upset for being layed off too?

  2. She will lose since: 1) there is no way an airline could have a cabin attendant that didn’t handle alcohol since a big part of the job is as a de facto waiter/bar tender; 2)Islam doesn’t prohibit serving alcohol, it prohibts drinking alcohol (if on the other hand the airline insisted she drink alochol, she would have a case); 3) Note that EEOC, an agency know for fanatic committment to political correctness, looked at the case and said it wasn’t interested.
