A woman has been killed and five other people injured in a possible terrorist knife attack in central London.

Police were called to reports of an armed man attacking people in Russell Square, shortly after 10.30pm on Wednesday.

Officers attending the incident found up to six people injured.

A woman was treated at the scene but was declared dead a short time later.

The condition of the other victims has not been released.

A man was arrested just minutes later after a Taser was fired by one of the police officers.

A police spokesman said: “Terrorism is one possibility being explored at this stage.”

It comes after the Met increased the number of armed officers in London following the recent terror attacks in Europe.
