A decade after Hizbullah abducted and killed IDF soldiers Gilad Erdan and Ehud Goldwasser on July 12, 2006, the IDF 18 months ago in the Galil Outpost of the 91st Division has constructed a physical barrier that will make it more difficult for Hizbullah to cross the border.
The engineering work near the border is not visible to area residents but it includes a protective wall and the clearing of all growth in the area. As many as 20 diggers and backhoes are operating simultaneously along with other engineering corps equipment and to date, the new border barrier along the border to Lebanon runs three kilometers in proximity of the border in addition to tens of kilometers of artificial slopes ranging in height from six to nine meters.
This is the result of analyzing and studying the abduction of Goldwasser and Regev and learning what measures must be implemented to prevent a future occurrence chas v’sholom. A buffer zone has also been created, one that is monitored by observation posts and obstacles have been constructed to prevent a border incursion in all during the day or night in any and all weather conditions.
