Efrat Kalifa and her eldest child Moshe accept the hero’s award at an emotional ceremony on behalf of her husband/father Menashe [ben Shulamit], 47, who remains comatose in Herzog Hospital in Jerusalem. The ceremony was held in Knesset on Tuesday.
Menashe tried to rescue 3-year-old Rachaeli Sofer z”l from a pit containing poisonous gas in the Ramat Eshkol area of Jerusalem over a half a year ago, and has since been comatose. Rachaeli did not survive.
Efrat spoke of her difficult situation, with five children and little financial assistance despite promises to the contrary from Jerusalem City Hall.
Also present was Mrs. Batsheva Sofer, Rachaeli’s mother, who spoke to the media in English, explaining the pain of her loss and her boundless gratitude for Menashe, for who she and others continue davening, for a speedy and total recovery. Since the tragedy, Efrat and Batsheva have become very close.
In December, YWN-Israel provided an update on Menashe’s condition and the family calls on Am Yisrael to continue davening on his behalf.

Menashe ben Shulamit – May HaSh*m grant him a refuah shelema Bimheira! Just as he was zariz to save one of HaKadosh Baruch Hu’s little daughters, so should he be granted from Harachaman HaTov a refuah Sheleima B’zrisut – Amen!
If this would have happened in the US the city would have been sued thru the nose. The least the Jerusalem city hall can do is provide some support for them!!
