The Jerusalem Planning Committee has approved construction in the Shuafat neighborhood, located in the northeastern capital. The initial plan calls for the construction of three 5-story building to house 50 families.
The latest announcement comes a day following the approval of construction in the Har HaZeisim area, near Yeshivat Beit Orot, where four buildings are planned, to accommodate 24 families.
The announcements will undoubtedly elicit the ire of the United States and European nations, all expressing their objections to future Israeli construction in “occupied areas”.
They believe that the future of Jerusalem must be determined in diplomatic talks between Israel and the PA (Palestinian Authority), adopting the working premise that the areas liberated in the June 1967 Six Day War are not legitimately Israel’s.
