The Ra’anana City Council has taken a positive step towards curtailing alcohol abuse at a time when the national government is addressing many unwanted acts traced to excessive alcohol among the nation’s youth. Towards achieving this noble goal, the city leaders have prohibited the sale of alcohol in city kiosks from 9:00pm-8:00am. Unlike many areas in N. America, where alcoholic beverages such as vodka are sold exclusively in stores licensed to sell alcoholic beverages, in Israel, wine, whiskey and liqueurs are sold in kiosks and grocery stores, with teens finding easier access to the enticing intoxicating substances.
In addition, restrictions have been set governing the sale of alcoholic beverages in coffee shops and pubs, stating they can only sell drinks to be consumed on premises and not bottles to take out. Violators face losing their business license.
