A gunman entered a Florida hospital and shot and killed a patient and an employee early Sunday before being arrested.
Local media says the shootings happened about 2 a.m. on the third floor of Parrish Medical Center in Titusville, which is near the Kennedy Space Center. The victims are both women and the shooting happened in the patient’s room. Police described the patient as elderly.
Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said two unarmed security guards captured the male suspect.
The shooting “appears to be extremely random,” he said.
Titusville Police Chief John Lau said the guards’ actions saved other lives.
Neither the names of the suspect and victims nor a motive have been released.
The hospital has reopened. Police are planning an afternoon press conference.
