Gingrich Calls For Sharia Ban After Nice Terror Attack

GingrichFormer House Speaker Newt Gingrich is responding to Thursday night’s truck attack in France by arguing for the expulsion from the U.S. of any Muslim who believes in Sharia law.

Gingrich is being considered as a possible running mate by presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

The former Georgia congressman said on Fox News Channel’s “Hannity” that the U.S. “should frankly test every person here who is of a Muslim background, and if they believe in Sharia, they should be deported. Sharia is incompatible with Western civilization.”

Gingrich is calling the attack in Nice, France, which killed at least 80 people, “the fault of Western elites who lack the guts to do what is right, to do what is necessary, and to tell us the truth, and that starts with Barack Obama.”

  1. Newt Gingrich is talking rubbish and it’s hard for me to believe he doesn’t know it.

Beyond the fact that in the United States, you cannot deport someone for their beliefs – and starting down that road would be a very slippery slope with little chances of reversal – the big problem is not the Mohammed-on-the-street who believes in sharia.

The big problem is the mosques that radicalize these people, the prestige and authenticity that the media and the government give to Muslim apologist and terrorist front organizations like CAIR, and our collective unwillingness to confront the enemy in any meaningful way. And I don’t necessarily mean with force. I mean the ideological enemy, especially Saudi Arabia that uses gazillions of their petrodollars to spread radical Islam around the world.

If the courts, the media and the government would be as heavy-handed with the mosques and radical Islamists as they are with any hint of any other faith – can you imagine anyone going after a Muslim-owned bakery that refused to bake a cake for a toeivah wedding, or forcing a mosque to hold such a wedding on its grounds? – and if they’d stop treating the Saudis as our best buddies, they would be able to start choking off the places and the atmosphere that lets radical Islam grow.

  2. i think this is almost a good idea but a better yardstick would be “do they believe in enforcing muslim standards on everyone else, and do they condone violence?”
The word “sharia” by itself just means their code of living, similar to the word “halacha” for Jews. As far as I know it is related to the Aramaic word “shari”, meaning permissible.

  3. In Sharia law, lying isn’t prohibited, so a Sharia believer will just lie to stick around, and blow himself up the next day!

  4. He’s extremely shrewd and obviously knows that this is totally impractical. He must be saying this to make Trump look less extreme. The timing os perfect.

  5. Newt Gingrich has been part of American politics for at least 30 years, and was forced out of any active roll in politics about 20 years ago – amid his own marital/sex scandal while he was persecuting Bill Clinton.

His proposal – deport selected Americans based on their beliefs – is patently unlawful. His allowing himself to be part of the Trump VP discussion will surely help his book sales. His presence on the Republican presidential ticket would set back the Republican party by 20 years.
