A new immigrant serving in the IDF Givati Brigade was scheduled to be married but being that he was not aware of the system, he naively thought one can address the bureaucratic matters and complete them hours before the chupah.

Bentzi Stoklow arrived at the Jerusalem Religious Council office on Monday 5 Tammuz expecting to receive the paperwork to permit him to stand under the chupah a few short hours later. The soldier, who is a yossom from his father simply did not know or understand the system.

The matter reached the hands of the Yaldei HaRav organization which is headed by Jerusalem Chief Ashkenazi Rabbi Aryeh Stern Shlita, who began working immediately to do what was necessary to permit the young immigrant soldier to stand under the chupah as scheduled.

Taking the matter personally into his hands, Rabbi Stern began the process and with Siyata Dishmaya was able to issue him the necessary papers to permit the chupah to carry on as planned. Bentzi admits he was nervous thinking he would have to cancel the hall at the last minute.

After taking care of the matter Rabbi Stern decided to attend the chasenah to add to the chosson’s simcha. During the dancing the rav told the chosson he is entitled to VIP treatment, explaining “We thank you today and we owe you a debt. Every time I assist soldiers I am amazed at your koach, modesty and simple willingness to give without limit and without receiving anything in return”.

  1. Wow what an incredible Rav. There should be more people like him. You don’t have to be a rabbi to be understanding of people who are different to you!!
