Federal officials and police are interviewing a man, believed to be Nigerian, who allegedly was trying to ignite a powdery substance today aboard a flight from Amsterdam to Detroit.
Northwest Airlines flight 253 landed safely in Detroit at 11:42 a.m. Only two passengers suffered minor injuries, according to law enforcement officials. The man is in custody at the airport and being interviewed by authorities.
It is unclear how powerful the explosive could have been and what the man’s intentions were. Initial reports were that fireworks or firecrackers had gone off on the plane.

Security must ave been very tight otherwise it couldn’t happen. another reason why travellin bec so expensive.
Give TSA some credit. They probably confiscated his bottles of shampoo and drinking water. Flying several decades ago used to be fun. Now, aside from the inherent risks in air travel, we can’t get on a plane without worrying that a lunatic fellow passenger was able to sneak explosives past TSA inspectors with X-ray machines. Boarding passengers are already subjected to various indignities. What repercussions will this incident have, strip searches?
There is major lax security on TSA and many other airlines. some inside job and hope the culprits lose their jobs and rott in jail.
