Three more Township Committee members face recall petitions, though two of them appear to be exempted from the current effort.
Yehuda Shain, a local government critic, filed petitions Friday with the township clerk against Mayor Meir Lichtenstein and Committeemen Robert W. Singer and Raymond G. Coles.
Because of rules stating when a committee member can be recalled, Lichtenstein and Singer are likely ineligible for recall, though the petition against Coles satisfies recall guidelines, according to the clerk’s office.
The recall petitions filed by Shain follows an effort by another group seeking to recall Committeeman Charles Cunliffe.
Menashe Miller is the only member of the governing body not facing a recall petition.
Shain contends that committee members have not done enough to control taxes and spending in town.
Coles said the recall effort is making a mockery of the democratic process.
Added Cunliffe: “The whole idea behind a recall is if someone did something really egregious, unethical or illegal, then voters have a course of action. I don’t think anyone has made any allegation like that.”
The committeemen say they believe those involved with the recall are part of a fringe group, and do not represent the majority of residents.
Shain and those involved in the Cunliffe recall campaign say government is unresponsive to residents’ concerns.

Please dont cause controversy within our hieliga kehillah.
Especailly that you know that nothing will come of your actions!
please; klal yisroel needs achdus not machlokes
trust me i pay more taxes then you, & it hurts, but this isnt the mehalech!
Sheves achaim gam yachad…..
There always has to be one troublemaker in the bunch otherwise we wouldn’t appreciate average normal people as much.
Stop with your silly calls for Achdus. As they shoved us in to the oven we also went with Achdus.
You are talking about a local government that has taken advantage of our community for the past 20+ years. We are constantly being abused. The recent tax reassesment was pushed on us by builders of new homes whose $800K homes were being taxed out of the market. Now with the new lower rate, those $800K homes are paying less taxes. How did the builders get that by…they paid their way. Our government officials are corrupt.
Our Vaad use to be good for one thing, at least they got us an extra garbage pick up every year before Pesach. This past year, they couldnt even provide that. Oh but they did support the previous Gay Governor and the present Pro Abortion, Pro Gay Governor. How can they support people who stand for things against the Torah?
Rabbi Shain is one of the few people in town with the guts to stand up and fight for what’s right. We need to support him, that’s where our achdus should be.
lets recall yeidle out of lakewood
ged-take it easy there-He’s an ehrliche person and a big askun. When you get to his shoes-you can judge.

I think you are missing the issue
we shouldent ask or even attempt to have any of our hielige yidden recalled or called…
we should unite & only suggest constructive ideas that we think will actually work & happen & not just make machlokes.
Rabbi Shain has & will do wonderful things for our community.
his point to lower taxes is a very serious one. the question is what’s the ‘eitza”
in monroe or willy, they would organize to bring in all the children from the mosdod on registration day to public school & demand that either you give us vouchers or enroll our children.
I BET YOU SOMEONE FROM TRENTON WOULD COME UP HERE IN A JIFFY & LOWER THE SCHOOL TAXES
As a frum resident of Lakewood I am appalled that such an action was taken.I hope I’m missing some details or those who did so will reconsider their behavior.I’m willing to pay HIGHER taxes to avoid sinas yisroel or the internal machlokes such an action could cause. And don’t think I don’t suffer from the tax rate I wasn’t able to buy a house and have to rent because I couldn’t afford the taxes (had they been lower I would of been able to make the mortgage payments)
if we shouldn’t recall each other we shouldn’t recall the jewish mayor
jakel7 get your facts straight! the assessment was mandated by state law. besides, why should a newer house say more taxes than an older one that is worth the same just because it is newer? i think he is just jealous of the attention the other recall group is getting. this is a total joke. just like his lawsuit against affordable housing and other things. when someone is always fakert…..
the petitioner is a known joker. he’ll never get close to the 25% of signatires he needs for it to go on the ballot.
the petitioner basically read theres something called a recall, when the last group filed recently, and said to himself, gee, heres another way for me to get some of the attention i love.
emes, it turns the stomach to hear you talk that way about a frum yid.
rav shach said years ago to rav shnuer , that the yidden should never go into the local gov’t they should only vote in goyim etc… rav shach said you’ll have a yeser hara to go into the gov’t but it is not worth it. rav shach said you will get much more if the goyim are there , adn also they will respect the yidden more that way. unfort- the rest is history .
now the goyim have no respect at all for us .
regarding the tax issue the bottom line is the property taxes here are to high and who ever can do something about that should be voted in
