The chief rabbi of Rechovot, HaGaon HaRav Simcha HaCohen Kook Shlita was among the rabbonim present in a Tuesday evening meeting with Maran HaGaon HaRav Yosef Sholom Elyashiv Shlita, discussing a number of urgent matters, including problems that have recently arisen due to state pressure on rabbonim to accept converts whom the rabbonim feel have not complied with the halachic requirements of giyur.

Mention was also made regarding recent controversial kashrus matters, including the High Court ruling demanding that Gavaad Ashdod Rabbi Yosef Sheinen Shlita grant a kashrus certificate to a bakery owned and operated by a Jewess for “J”. His refusal to comply with the court’s ruling has landed him a contempt of court case.

Rav Elyashiv praised the efforts of the rabbonim, giving them his bracha, adding that in the immediate future, the matter will be raised by chareidi lawmakers who are working on these critical issues.
