A heroic man and his good deed have been credited with saving a commuter’s life.
A passenger fell onto the subway tracks and was taken out of harm’s way by a complete stranger.
It only took seconds for a 20-year-old to nearly lose his life. Waiting for the F train at McDonald Avenue and Avenue N to head to work, he slipped and fell onto the tracks, and was struck.
“I heard him yelling, screaming. My dad heard him first, and I said what was that and maybe somebody got hit and I just ran up there,” Michael Hunt Jr. said.
From the street below, came a hero.
Hunt Jr. raced across the road, up the steps, and onto the platform. Then came the dangerous decision: should he risk his own life and leap onto the tracks?
“I said ‘don’t worry, everything is going to be okay. I’m here with you,'” Hunt said.
With no emergency crews in sight, the Good Samaritan jumped onto the tracks and raced over to the man, picked him up, carried him onto a platform and performed CPR.
“He wasn’t talking to me for a moment, so I automatically laid him on the floor and started doing CPR,” Hunt said.
Ali Mayir’s family calls Hunt an angel.
Mayir remained in intensive care Monday night. His legs were severed in the accident.
“We’re just trying to deal with that… trying to stay….,” Hassan Mayir said before breaking down.
This family has not left their brother’s side at Lutheran medical Center. They are overcome with emotion over a complete stranger who saved their brother’s life.
“Thank God he’s alive. That’s the important thing. Thank God he’s alive,” Hunt added.
The Good Samaritan told CBS 2 HD that soon after performing CPR himself, emergency crews arrived and rushed the man to the hospital.

Why were his legs severed?
Yasher Koach to the good samaritan.
The guy slipped, fell onto the tracks and was struck. Where was the train operator in all this? If he stopped the train, where is the possibility of being hit by another train? Did he leave the scene?

What time of the morning did this occur?
I highly recommend that when waiting for a train, stand as close to the wall as possible!

On a footnote, it is my understanding that the term “Good Samaritan”, is antisemitic at it’s foundation. The story I heard was that it was, in fact, a Jew, who did the historic good deed. And it was, I believe, yushka, not wanting to promote real Jews or Judaism, who deliberately changed it to a “Samaritan” who were at some odds with the Jews, so as to add insult to injury. If someone can elaborate of clarify, please do.
Anyway, very heroic job!!
#4, as you say. People stand too close to the edge. Admit it – everyone occasionally falls asleep a little bit and almost falls, everyone can trip over something, someone may bump into you – enough to die if you’re too close to the edge.
I’m always very careful to stay at an appropiate distance from the edge at any and all related situations, including also road crossings at big busy streets.
#5 – Should we start calling him a “GoodJew” instead? I doubt 10% of the population even knows what a Samaritan is.
