Bicyclists who planned to be appropriately dressed to protest the removal of the Williamsburg Brooklyn bike lane changed their minds as they (all 20 of them) rolled into tonight’s snowstorm.
But according to a report by Gothamist, it wasn’t just the snow and cold weather that kept the protesters clothed. One of the ride’s organizers, Heather Loop, had previously taken a confrontational stance toward the South Williamsburg Chasidic community, telling the Brooklyn Paper, “If you can’t handle scantily clad women…live in a place where you can have your own sanctuary, like upstate.” But tonight Loop and others backpedaled their provocation. “We’re not trying to start a war, we’re trying to save a bike lane,” Loop told Gothamist
The protest began with a dedication to bicyclists who’ve been killed and injured in traffic accidents. Then it was off into the snow, with photographers, news trucks, and the NYPD on hand to catch any provocation.
The neighborhood’s Chasidic residents barely seemed to notice.

Aw, come on. What are they? Cowards or the tough meshuganers from the “Polar Bear Club”?
Ok, Flatbush Bubby- I’ve been reading your posts on a lot of different subjects, but I don’t think I’ve ever been more disgusted with a story on Yeshiva World News.
This story is a prime example on why the gentiles hate the Jews so much. But before I actually tell you the reason (which, by the way, you all should know) I would like to point out something.
THIS IS NOT OUR COUNTRY, AND THIS IS NOT OUR CITY!
The one thing the gentiles hate most about the Jews is the fact that we have a tendency to meddle with affairs that do not concern us. A bike lane?? The moment I read that they took away the bike lane for the selfish reasons that the chassidim may have, I knew that something like this was going to happen. Again, this is not our city, as much as we would like it to be. This is their city!
If residents want a bike path, or if there was a bike path for years and years, and then some Jews decide that ‘we don’t want it- who cares about anyone else’- I’m sorry to say, they have first priority.
I still cannot believe I actually have to spell this out to all of you Yeshiva World News goers…but we do not have the right to take away something that they had for years and enjoyed, for our own stupid and selfish reasons. Just because the mayor or local politician was payed off by some Jews in the local community (which by the way, in case you don’t know, is not only selfish, but completely wrong)- that does not give us the right to prance about and do what we please!
This is why gentiles hate us! Us your brains!! Don’t pick fights!!
I am not trying to direct my anger at you, Flatbush Bubby, but rather at the mentality that unfortunately has become mainstream in the Jewish community.
Again, THIS IS NOT OUR CITY, AND THIS IS NOT OUR COUNTRY!
Dear Benzion from comment #2. With all due respect, you should stop smoking or taking what you are. Its probably illegal.
This bike lane that you refer to 6 times that has “been there for years” and should not be taken away from the bikers because of some petty jews. First know the facts then talk.
The bike lane is NEW. it was placed there recently and was done so throughout the City of New York. There is a new push by the City that we should use more energy efficient means of transportation.
Just as the Bikers want the lanes, and may be justified to them. The frum community can ask and lobby that they dont want them. Cardinal Egan for the Catholics and the Muslims can rally, protest and lobby for their causes, but the frum jew can’t. Why are we such self hating jews. It never got us anywhere. As a matter of fact, they always came for us first when deportation time came.
#2 is completely right. By the way, the same applies to the Arabs in E”Y as well.
Kahane was WRONG.
Number 2:
America has freedom of religion. If we have concerns we are entitled to voice them and get a response.
A democracy cannot trample on the minority.
If modesty is a concern, then it should be allowed to be heard. Even the goyim clean out from their cities all kinds of things that by them are immodest.
#2 is right about some things and wrong on others.
As frum jews we do not have the right to impose our religious beliefs on others. However, as a resident of this city we have rights about the character of our local neighborhoods. Guiliani did not remove adult stores from Manhatten locations because of a frum request, it was at the request of neighbors. Why can they make requests, but we can’t? We have a right to set the tone for the developments in our local neighborhood. The same way that local communities citywide have succesfully stopped projects in their neighborhood, we are trying to do the same. Were not stopping citywide bike paths, were asking that it be moved three blocks over.
If Satmar wanted to build a schoo in the yuppie area there would be protests about how its out of character for the neighborhood.
There is no reason this local fight has been made such a news story.
The bike lane was not taken away, just moved over.
Benzion, for your information, the people who want to the bike lanes from the northern part of Williamsburg are some of the biggest, morally lowlives that you can imagine. They originally wanted to bike in the nude through Williamsburg. Have you ever heard of indecent exposure? It is a misdemeanor. So before you start your pious protestations, get some more facts and then you can go on your tirade.
its not that simple to say eiather way,
Thos needs REAL DASS TORAH, I liked some of the comments, very thoghtfull- and that’s why you need DASS TORAH more then ever, to decide what is the right thing

i find it so funny that you rant and rave with zero facts yuo made a total fool out of yourself
imagine i said you know we jews have to know that we cant make our own schools who do we think we are this is not our country let us all go to public school why not thats how you sound
THE BIKE LANE WAS ONLY MOVED NOT REMOVED IF THESES BIKERS WERE FOR REAL THEY WOULDNT PROTEST BECAUSE THEY HAVE A BIKE LANE THEYRE JUST LOOKING FOR TROUBLE
holtzichfest, everyone is sticking up for the bikers but what about the drivers who have to drive around the bikers? The bike lanes reduce necessary roadway and make it difficult for cars to pass. Just ask the poor Hatzolah guys how they get around in their ambulances.
Benzion (post #2), you are right, it is not our country, and it is not our city.
But in America EVEN THE JEWS are allowed a say in government policies. That’s why it’s called a democracy. As long as we keep to the democratic process, and keep the laws and so forth, we have a right to voice our opinions and request the needs of our communities.
