Three talmidim, students at the Chassidei Chabad Yeshiva, were robbed at knifepoint by two Arabs at Checkpoint Jct. in the Haifa area, in the middle of the night. According to a HaMevaser report, the Arab assailants were drunk. They stole the kupot tzedaka the talmidim were carrying.
The incident began by one of the assailants asking for a jelly doughnut. The Chabadniks did not realize they were Arabs at first, giving them one. The Arab gave back the carton of doughnuts, explaining he does not need it, then grabbing the tzedaka box and making off, disappearing into the night. As he made off with the money, he warned them “don’t call the police or I will stab you”.
He then moved a hand towards a pocket as if he was going to pull a knife, adding “No one tells me no. I already sat in prison for 10 years and I am not afraid of anyone”.
The three felt they were in true danger and decided to forfeit the money and run, with the report adding they acted in accordance to advice given by one of their rabbonim on the phone.
